Testing and standards

Product testing

The driving force behind all of our products is The Taylor Test House, the UK’s only fully accredited R&D facility that ensures our customers enjoy the most durable and safest waste and recycling containers in the world.

Whether you need a new solution for street waste, commercial waste collection, or domestic recycling, it’s here that we can create completely innovative products without the need to go through lengthy prototyping – perfect for when your market needs suddenly change and require a different approach.

Most importantly, the Test House guarantees our waste and recycling containers conform to EN840, EN14803 and other performance standards, and we independently re-certify our range of products every 6 months in accordance with WISH guidelines.

A rigorous ‘test to destruction’ programme means that our trade waste bins and recycling containers can cope with the widest range of environmental conditions – heat, cold and corrosive – they might face at home or abroad. It also ensures they have the structural integrity to withstand continuous day-to-day use and abuse so your bins stay in service year after year.

EN840

EN840 is the recognised European Standard for mobile waste containers; both two and four wheeled, of varying capacities and specifications. The EN840 standard is also being adopted throughout the world by more and more countries outside of Europe. By ensuring all bins that are purchased comply to these standards, managers are able to help ensure the safety of employees and the public.

Egbert Taylor is committed to improving safety in the Waste and Recycling Industry. The material in our downloadable information guide has been developed to educate readers on the safety standards that exist and inform of the risks of non-compliance.

All applicable Taylor products comply with parts 2, 5 and 6 of the EN840 standard. This ensures that all 4 wheeled containers will operate correctly whilst being emptied on a refuse vehicle, if the container is picked up by the comb bar (frontal receiver) or by the DIN points (trunnions).

The handles are placed in the optimal areas for ergonomics and manoeuvrability of the containers, whilst still retaining safe distance from any moving parts on the refuse vehicle when presenting the container to the lifting device.

The castors fitted to our containers are tested for strength and rolling resistance to ensure the customer gets longevity from our products, yet still complies with Health and Safety recommendations for manoeuvring wheeled objects. Taylor products are independently tested, by Lloyds British every 6 months to ensure our products meet the highest safety standards in the industry.
