Update and Innovate your ‘Binfrastructure’

,

Cleaning the UK’s streets of mostly avoidable litter costs the taxpayer almost £800million each year according to the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Overflowing bins, missed collections and poorly located waste containers contribute to the growing problem of littering and excessive waste on our countries streets with a worrying 1 in 5* people having admitted to dropping litter in the past.

Aiming to prevent the spread of littering and decrease the unnecessary public spend on UK street cleaning, just under £500,000 in government funding will be awarded to community projects tackling litter in the UK in new and innovative ways with applications for funding available until November 17th, 2017. For the best opportunity at securing funding, please ensure your Expression of Interest is submitted by September 26th.

Rugby Borough Council reduced waste collection by 97% – from 51,100 collections per year, to only 1,509 – a saving of 49,591.

All Egbert Taylor customers can convert their traditional bins into intelligent, smart bins in a matter of minutes.

“Innovation is vital if we are to change the behaviour of the minority of people who still think it is okay to drop their rubbish on the ground for someone else to pick up,”

“Keep Britain Tidy’s Centre for Social Innovation was created to develop and test new approaches to behaviour change and we are delighted to see the government has recognised the importance of innovation to tackle the blight of littering in our country.”

Alison Ogden-Newton, Chief Executive of anti-litter charity Keep Britain Tidy
